According to ancient texts, he appeared to protect his devotee Prahlad and to rid the world of the tortures of demon king Hiranyakashipu.

Hiranyakashipu and Lord Narasimha

Lord Narasimha appeared on the dusk of Chaturdashi to protect his dear devotee Prahlad from his cruel and angered father, Hiranyakashipu. However, Hiranyakashipu performed severe penances and received a blessing from Lord Brahma. As a result, he could not be killed by any living being, be it demigod, demon, human, or animal. Therefore, Narasimha’s divine intervention was the only way to save Prahlad from his demon father.

As per Hindu Panchang, Narasimha Jayanti falls on Chaturdashi (14th day) of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh mas.

Further, in 2025, we have Narasimha Dwadashi on 11th May. Furthermore, the Chaturdashi tithi will start on May 10, 2025 at 05:29 PM and ends on May 11, 2025 at 08:01 PM.

  3. Wake up before sunrise. After taking a bath, start worshipping Lord Narasimha.
  4. Install an image or idol of Lord Narasimha in your puja place.
  5. Lastly, offer chandan powder (sandalwood), Kesar (saffron), coconut, fruits, and flowers.
  6. Do not forget to chant ‘Narasimha Gayatri Mantra’ after this.
  7. Besides, devotees who conduct fasting should donate things like til (sesame), money or valuables like silver as per their convenience.
