Story of Vivah Panchami

Lord Shri Ram and Mother Sita are honuored as earthly forms of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Sita, the daughter of King Janak, has a unique story. According to legend, King Janak found her while plowing a field. He named her Sita and raised her as his daughter, often called Janak Putri.

Furthermore, King Janak owned Lord Shiva’s Pinaak (powerful bow) , which only Lord Parshuram had ever lifted. Amazingly, young Sita lifted this bow, astonishing her father. Inspired by this, King Janak decided she would marry only a man who could lift and string it.

So, he organized a Swayamvar, inviting warriors and kings from afar. One by one, each prince tried but failed to lift the bow. Seeing this, a disappointed King Janak questioned if anyone was worthy of his daughter.

At this point, Maharishi Vashishtha encouraged Lord Ram to try. Ram obeyed and, to everyone’s amazement, lifted the bow effortlessly. As he began to string it, the bow broke in two. With that, Ram won Sita’s hand, and she joyfully placed a garland around his neck.

It’s believed that at that moment, the three worlds celebrated in delight.

Today, Vivah Panchami continues to honor this divine union of Ram and Sita, inspiring love, devotion, and joy in the hearts of devotees everywhere.
