Prakatyotsav of thakur Bankey Bihari is going to be a big event in the month of December, 2025. Bankey Bihari is the name of the idol of Lord Krishna installed in one of the prime temples in Vrindavan, Mathura, India.

Introduction

Devotees from all over the country and the world are going to witness the grandeur of Prakatyotsav (Appearance day) of Shri Bankey Bihari (baby form of Lord Krishna) on December 6, 2024 at Vrindavan, Mathura.

Moreover, it is going to be a big ceremonial celebration with lakhs of people participating with glee and fun. The temple commitee has announced advisory for devotees coming to attend the ceremony. They have advised to not to bring elders, disabled and kids along with. There has been many traffic diversions to have smooth bhavya Shobha yatra (procession) on the day.

This ritualistic celebration every year often find spiritual significance for almost every Hindu.

Date and schedule of Prakatyotsav

On December 6th, 2024, there is a grand endeavour called Vihar Panchami at Vrindavan, Mathura. As per Hindu Panchang, it is celebrated on the fifth day of shukla paksha of Margshirsha month.

Apparently, it is also known as Vihar Panchami.

However, it will start with Maha abhishekam of footprints of Shri Bankey Bihari at Nidhivan Raj temple with Panchamrit (a holy drink made of five things- milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar).

Afterwards, there will be Aarti and Badhai Bhajan Gayan (congratulatory singing of hymns) performed by devotees and priests at Nidhivan Raj temple. Later, at 8 o’clock, a grand and divine procession around the city will commence. Also, the procession is expected to reach the Bankey Bihari temple by 12 o’clock.

What is Prakatyotsav?

Particularly, Prakatyotsav of Shri Bankey Bihari is the appearance day of the sacred idol of Shri Bankey Bihari at Vrindavan.

History of Prakatyotsav

Further, it is believed that Swami Haridas was a great devotee of Shri Krishna. Swami Haridas used to visit Nitya Raas and Nitya Vihar every day in the groves of Nidhivan. Furthermore, he used to sing very beautiful verses.

Infact, it is believed that Swami Haridas is the incarnation of Radharani’s friend Gopi Lalita Sakhi. Thus, Lord Krishna was pleased with the sadhana of Swami Haridas, he stayed in Nidhivan located in Vrindavan on the Panchami of Margashirsha Shukla Paksha of Vikram Samvat 1563. Lord Krishna took form of Banke Bihari idol and appeared. Today this place is famous as Nidhivan Raj Temple.

Hence, this day is celebrated as Vihar Panchami in Braj.

What is Bankey Bihari Temple?

Moreover , Thakur Shri Bankey Bihari ji temple is one of the prime pilgrimage site for Krishna lovers. It is located at Vrindavan, Mathura. Hardly, there is any Krishna follower who has not taken the name of Shri Bankey Bihari Temple at Vrindavan, Mathura.

Apparently it is the name of the idol installed in the temple. Thakur is salutation given to him while Bankey means bent from three places. Indeed, it is believed that the idol was manifested by Swami Haridas as combined swaroop of Shri Krishna and his beloved Radharani.

Additionally, Vrindavan will be vibrantly lit and decorated on 17th December on the occasion of Bankey Bihari Prakatyotsav.

Conclusion

After Vihar Panchami, there is a possibility of a large number of devotees gathering at Vrindavan and other parts of Brij Shetra. Certainly, they want to celebrate their Christmas holidays and new year eve with their beloved Shri Krishna while singing and dancing on to the tunes of praising Shri Krishna.
