Indeed, the connection between Brij and Lathmar Holi is deeply rooted in the divine and blissful love story of Radha and Krishna. It adds a sacred and enchanting dimension to the celebration.

The symbolic playful fight between Radha and Krishna, involving colors, gulal and sticks, is given the name Lathmar Holi. As mentioned in my earlier blog, young Lord Krishna desired Radha to share his skin color, playfully smearing Gulal on the face of his beloved Radha and other Gopis. Consequently, Radha chased him with a Lath to take revenge. Nevertheless, the Lathmar Holi has become the identity of this divine place.

Dates of Lathmar Holi in Nandgaon and Barsana

Furthermore, the men of Nandgaon, symbolically representing the arrival of Lord Krishna, come to Barsana to play Holi with the womenfolk of Barsana. In return, women of Barsana hit Men with Lath. They shower sticks on Men, in return, men defend themselves with decorated shields.

Likewise, we are going to witness the burst of Gulal and the hustle and bustle of Lathmar Holi at Nandgaon on March 9, 2025. Moreover, the next day, men from Barsana go to Nandgaon to partake in the Holi celebrations with the women of Nandgaon.
