What is Krishna Chhathi?
However, Krishna Chhathi is the most revered festival in Hindu culture. It is celebrated six days after Krishna Janamashtami. As per Hindu rituals, Chhathi is celebrated with great glee and fun, as it is a significant occasion in many Hindu cultures.
Significance of Krishna Chhathi
On Krishna Chhathi, the air fills with sacred chants and devotional melodies. Timeless tales of Lord Krishna’s divine play are shared. In Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, and parts of Gujarat, devotees gather for rituals. These rituals are believed to bless and protect newborns. They recall the divine child who overcame every peril. Indeed, devotees also dress their idol of Laddu Gopal in pink or yellow poshak.
In India, we shower Laddu Gopal ji with the same love and devotion as our own child. His birth and Chhathi are celebrated with deep affection, akin to the joy we show for our own offspring. The immense faith and devotion in serving Laddu Gopal ji are evident in every Hindu household.
Particularly, In Uttar Pradesh, women cook Kadhi Rice to offer it as bhog to Laddu Gopal ji.

Apparently, in Indian families, it is believed that Shashthi Devi is the presiding deity of the new born child, protecting him from illness and evils eye. Besides, she is worshiped on the sixth day after the birth of the child.
Who is Shashti Devi?
Shashthi Devi is a revered goddess in Hinduism, worshipped across India as Devsena (wife of lord Kartikeya) also. Infact, she is known as the guardian of children and the deity of fertility and plants. In addition to, it is believed that she blesses couples with children and aids in childbirth.
According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, there was a kind and valiant king named Priyavrata. He ruled over a joyful and prosperous kingdom. However, the absence of an heir caused him deep sorrow. Desperate for a child, the king performed a Putrakamesthi Yagna, a sacred ritual to have a son.
Though the queen conceived, their joy turned to despair when she gave birth to a stillborn son. Heartbroken, the king decided to end his life at the cremation of his son. As he approached the pyre, Goddess Shashthi appeared. The goddess revived his son and, in return, asked the king to spread her worship across the teen lokas( three realms).
Since then, Shashthi Devi is worshiped on sixth day after the birth of a new born child.
Date and tithi of Krishna chhathi
As per Hindu Panchang, Krishna Chhathi is celebrated on sixth day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrpada mas.
This year, Krishna Janmashtami was joyously celebrated across the country on August 26th. Now, just six days later, Krishna Chhathi will follow on September 1st, 2024. Although, the day is made even more auspicious with the convergence of Ashlesha Nakshatra, Magh Nakshatra, Parigha Yoga, and Shiva Yoga. The Sun and Moon will both reside in Singah rashi(Leo), creating a powerful celestial alignment. During this sacred time, worshiping Laddu Gopal ji is believed to bring manifold blessings and divine rewards.
Rituals of Krishna Chhathi
- Firstly, wake up during Brahma Muhurta and take a bath.
- Then after, spread a red or yellow cloth on a stool and place Laddu Gopal ji or idol of Shri Krishna on it.
- Secondly, Bathe Laddu Gopal ji with Panchamrit.
- Do not forget to dress him in new yellow or pink colored clothes and install him on the stool.
- Subsequently, apply a Tilak of kumkum or yellow sandalwood to Laddu Gopal ji.
- Offer a flower garland and light a diya for Aarti.
- Offer Kadhi rice with Makhan Mishri as bhog to Kanhaji.
- Distribute the Prasad to everyone.
- In many places, devotees lovingly decorate a Hindola (swing) for Bal Gopal Ji in their puja spaces, placing him on the Jhula during Krishna Janmashtami. On Krishna Chhathi, they return him to his original place while reciting bhajans, performing kirtans, and offering bhog prasad.
