Rituals of Holi Bhai Dooj 2025

Here are the sacred rituals followed on this occasion:

  • Firstly, sisters wake up early in the morning and perform their bathing rituals.
  • Thereafter, they worship Lord Yama, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Vishnu before beginning the festivities.
  • Apparently, in many places, it is believed that Goddess Yamuna applied tilak to Lord Yama on this day.
  • Therefore, it is considered auspicious to bathe in the Yamuna River or add its holy water to the bathing bucket.
  • Further, sisters apply a sacred tilak of Gulaal or Holi colors on their brother’s forehead. This tilak is often made from a blend of Teshu flower powder, Gulaal, sandalwood paste, and kumkum (red powder), symbolizing protection and well-being.
  • In addition to, after tilak, the sister performs an aarti (moving a plate with a lit lamp in clock wise direction) for her brother. She did so for the prosperity and longevity of her brother.
  • At the end, brothers give gifts to their sisters as a token of their love. These gifts may include money, clothes, jewellery or any thoughtful items that the sister wished for long.
  • And of course, no celebration is complete without sweets! Sisters lovingly prepare or buy special sweets, offering them to their brothers as a token of their sweet and cherished bond. After all, what better way to celebrate love than with something delicious?
