Today we are here with an intersting topic – Hinduism. I am sure you must have read a lot about this 4000 years old religious celebration of human existence. But, are you sure you know about Hinduism fully?

Hinduism is the third largest followed religion in the world. Also, it is still followed all over the world.

And, Hinduism is a diverse religious and cultural tradition that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Additionally, it includes a wide range of beliefs, practices, rituals and philosophies. Apparently, Hinduism is characterized by its openness to different interpretations and ways of worship. Sincw Hinduism’s rich tapestry of beliefs and practices has left a lasting impact on art, philosophy, culture and spirituality across the globe.

Hinduism and its amazing facts

Parabrahma in Hinduism

According to the Vedas, there is only one God, whose name is Brahma. He alone is called God, Supreme Soul, Supreme Father, Parabrahma etc. He is formless, immutable, unborn, unmanifest and infinite. Sameways , all the gods and goddesses, gandharwa, sages, saints, humans pray to him.

Vedas are supreme text in Hinduism

The only scripture of Hinduism is the Vedas. There are four Vedas :

  • Rig Veda
  • Yaju Veda
  • Sama Veda
  • Atharva Veda.

The philosophy of Vedas itself is called Upanishads which are about 108 in number. Again, the parts of the Vedas are called Vedangas.Vedangas are six – Shiksha,

  • Kalpa,
  • Vyakaran,
  • Jyotish,
  • Chhanda,
  • Nirukta.

There are 18 Puranas, Ramayana and Mahabharata . You can find Geeta at every Hindu house. Especially, It has essence of Vedas, Upanishads, and the essential teachings for Human.

Oldest still followed Religion- Hinduism

According to the scholars, Hindu religion has been continuous for about 90 thousand years. Name changed, form changed, traditions changed, but knowledge did not change, God did not change and neither did the pilgrimage. We have evidence that the people of the Indus Valley were Hindus before 8000 BC. There are archaeological evidence to show the existence of great religion, Hinduism in pre vedic times too.

Sandhyavandhan in Hinduism

Sandhyavandan and meditation have great importance in Hinduism. Sandhyavandhan means the time of evening( sandhya) for prayers. Some people perform Puja-Aarti, Bhajan-Kirtan, Prayer, Yagya or meditation at the time of Sandhyavandan.

Sandhyavandan is of eight prahars in which two prahars are for everyone- at the time of sunrise and sunset, Sandhyavandan is performed with Gayatri verses by aachaman, pranayamadi in the temple or in solitude.

Yoga and Dhyana in Hinduism

Hinduism is a style of living. By adopting the rules of Yoga, Ayurveda and fasting, you can always be happy by being healthy. Moreover, it contains important information regarding food, water, sleep, meditation, karma, mind, intelligence and thought process. Even in contemporary times, these rules of living are justified and accepted by science.

Yagya and Hinduism

As per the Vedas, there are five types of Yagya-

1. Brahmayagya

2. Devyagya

3. Pitriyagya

4. Vaishwadev Yagya

5. Athithi Yagya.

The meaning of Brahmayagya is evening prayer, self-study and recitation of the Vedas. Devayagya means satsang and performing Agnihotra rituals. Pitriyagya means performing Shradh rituals with respect to ancestors, teachers and parents. Vaishwadevayagya means giving water to fire, animals and birds. In the end, Atithi Yajna means service to disabled, women, students, monks, doctors and protectors of religion.

Duties, Purushartha and Ashram in Hinduism

Further, there are 10 duties and deeds of Hindus-

  • Sandhyopasan,
  • pilgrimage,
  • lesson,
  • charity,
  • yagya
  • fast,
  • sacrament,
  • festival,
  • service and
  • Shraddha.

Do you know the only goal of life is salvation? Moksha means to free from the cycle of life and death. Furthermore, attaining enlightenment or moksha is to bring oneself to a state where there is no meaning of birth and death. Not only this, our sages and saints during ancient times could take birth and die according to one’s will.

Science and Hinduism

At the beginning of the AD century, when people were learning to read and write and be civilized in other parts of the world. We Indians, on the other hand, scholars like Vikramaditya, Panini, Chanakya were building a new edifice of grammar and economics in India.

Specifically, scholars like Aryabhatta, Varahamihira were sifting through the ashes of space. People like Vasubandhu, Dharmapala, Suvishnu, Asanga, Dharmakirti, Shantarakshita, Nagarjuna, Aryadeva, Padmasambhava studied in those universities which were only in India. In many universities like Takshila, Vikramshila, Nalanda etc. people from all over the world used to come to study.


Thus, we can say that Hinduism incorporates the vivacious and indigenous concepts such as karma (the law of cause and effect), dharma (moral and ethical duties), punarjanam (reincarnation) and the pursuit of moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). It also features a vast pantheon of deities, with a variety of gods and goddesses representing different aspects of the divine.Have a blessed day ahead.
