Legends of Hartalika Teej
As per popular belief, once Goddess Parwati abducted Shailaputri, the daughter of Himalaya. On the suggestion of Narada, her father promised her hand in marriage to Lord Vishnu. But Parwati did not agree with her father’s decision so her friend took Parwati to a dense forest so that her father would not marry her against her will.
According to mythology, Goddess Parwati’s unwavering penance in the forest won Lord Shiva’s blessings, ensuring her dream of marrying him would come true. With the support of her loyal friends, she united with Lord Shiva, making this day a symbol of friendship and the power of unity among women.
Date, tithi and Puja Muhurat of Hartalika Teej 2025
Indeed, it is celebrated on tritiya (third) day of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrpada month of Hindu Panchang. This year we are going to celebrate it on August 26, 2025.
Additionally, the tithi will start at 12:34 PM on 25 August 2025 and will end up at 1:54 PM on August 26, 2025.
Likewise the shubh muhurat for Hartalika teej Vrat puja will start at 5:56 AM and will continue till 8:31 AM on August 26, 2025.
Significance of Hartalika teej 2025
Infact, this festival holds great relevance for married woman. Further, it symbolises the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parwati. These women perform puja and fasting with utmost devotion to be blessed with fortune, divine blessings and longevity of their consort.
On this auspicious day, women adorn themselves in beautiful attire and intricate Shringar, participating in songs, dances, and prayers to seek marital bliss and the well-being of their families.
However, it is celebrated to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parwati as Gauri Shankar at many places. Also this fast is observed for 24 hours.
Rituals and traditions
- On this auspicious, women and girls wake up early in the morning and have bathing rituals. Do you know this vrat is performed in Pradosh kaal? Pradosh kaal is after sunset. Thus, it is performed at the time of day and night both.
- Moreover, women wear red colour clothes and adorned themselves with 16 shringaar items.
- Further, people do decorate puja stool and place it in puja room. Then after place a clean red colour clothes over it.
- In addition to, place an idol of Gauri Shankar or make one with clay.
- Besides, in many different geographical locations, women make idols of Lord Shiva, Mata Parwati and Ganesha with sand and clay.
- Adorned them with flowers and shringaar. Then after, recite Katha and offer aarti to the deity.
