Introduction
We have been discussing Ekadashi, Ashtami, amawasya and many more festivals in our previous blogs. Let’s move towards Purnima.
What is Purnima?
Purnima is a Hindi term refers to the full moon. It divides a month into two halves known as Paksha in Hindu Panchang. We have Purnima and Amawasya in a hindu Panchang defining the tithi from Pratipada till Chatrudashi and the cycle goes on.
Dauji ki Purnima 2024
In Braj, this full moon aka Agrahanaya Purnima holds a special place in my heart as “Dauji ki Purnima.” On this sacred day, devotees joyfully celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna’s elder brother, Baldev, lovingly called “Dau.” Hence, given the name, Dau ji ki Puno. The festivities, filled with devotion and vibrant energy, beautifully honor Baldev’s strength, love and unwavering loyalty.
Besides, aghan Purnima has special significance in Braj. On this day, people offer Makhan Mishri (butter and crystallised sugar) to God in their homes and temples. Baldev Ji was the re-incarnation of Sheshavatar Laxman Ji in Treta Yug.
On this day, God is dressed in blue clothes in the main temples of Dauji in the Agra, Mathura and other Brij regions.
Rituals on Dauji ki Purnima
Performing a bath in a holy river on the eve of Dauji ki Purnima/aghan Purnima is considered highly auspicious. Consequently, devotees gather in large numbers at the banks of rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, and Narmada to partake in this sacred ritual.
Furthermore, on Dauji ki Purnima/Aghan Purnima, they worship Lord Vishnu and the Moon God, believing that offering prayers to these deities fulfills their desires.
Date and tithi of Dauji ki Purnima 2024
As per Hindu Panchang, we have Dauji ki Purnima falling on Purnima of Shukla Paksha of aghan mas.
In 2024, we have Dauji Ki Purnima on 15th December 2024. However, the tithi will start from 4:58 PM on 14 December 2024 and will end up at 2:31 PM on 15 December 2024.
